Meta Description Length of a post-

We already have discussed that meta description is an important part when you do SEO for your website or your blog. Now you can think about what should be the length of a meta description with respect to proper SEO techniques.

If you are using Yoast SEO plugin for SEO purpose of a website, you might have seen that Yoast says, the meta description length should be 156 characters long. if you ask me the reasons for this the reason is obvious. You can try searching a keyword on Google and check out all the results.

You can clearly see that Google displays starting 156 characters of meta description part in search results. But this is not true always if you go in depth of search result you can see that sometimes Google will show you more than 156 characters and that can be up to 320 characters.

This leads to the conclusion that you have to use at least 156 characters in your meta description and it can range up to 320 characters. So, Just to avoid any confusion you have to use more than 200 characters and somehow in between 250 to 260 characters inside your meta description that will be better for your website SEO.

The primary key phrase in the title and subtitle

You have to use your primary keyword in at least one title and one subtitle. Make sure that you are using your primary keyword in either H1 and H2 tag as a title part and inside H3, H4 and H5 as a subtitle part.

Other than that you can use your keyword synonyms in the title and as well as in the meta description. if you are a novice blogger then you should focus on the ranking of long tail keywords. long tail keywords are easy to rank like rather than ranking for B2B companies, B2B lead generation, lead generation. You should try to focus on the ranking of B2B lead generation companies as a whole keyword.

If you do this then ranking will be easy for you and this will also help you to increase the website domain authority and as well as page authority. This is really very important to use the primary key phrase in the first paragraph of your blog. Have you ever thought about what will happen if you do not use the Yoast SEO plugin? like you will not get options to add SEO title, to add meta description, to add synonyms of focus keywords, to change the permalink structure.

But, if you are a good an SEO manager then would probably know Yoast SEO is just a tool which analyses your contents. If you are a good SEO expert then this analyzation can be done on your own.

Do you know why I am telling you this ? Because, Google keeps first paragraph as a meta description if you have not added meta description in your content. You always have to write your first paragraph like a short summary of your content or like a meta description of your content. You should always include two primary keywords inside the first two lines of your first paragraph.

As, you have seen in the blogging platforms Blogspot, tumbler, WordPress.com, Here we don’t have options to add a meta description. In that case, Google keeps the first paragraph as a meta description in their search result.

Usage of image inside a post –

Please keep in mind that you have to add at least one image in your content. Image is an important part of a content which provides content and important value. So, adding an image ads value to your content.

One thing that you have to keep and while adding an image and that is you have to keep your image just below are above the paragraph which is relevant to that particular image.

Alternate text of an image is mandatory

Alternate text of an image specifies a search engine about the relevancy of that image. It tells the search engines that what is this image all about? You know that image ranking an important part of Google ranking today. So, whenever you are writing a blog post or you are structuring a content then you always have to add at least one image and you have to focus on giving the alternate text of that image in a relevant way.

Many of us have a myth that in all the images of your content you have to add your primary keyword. This is not correct. Google has already specified that this would not help you in better ranking. So, always starve for adding a relevant and suitable alternate text of an image which you are adding inside your content.

If you do this, Google will trim your title. Refer to the given below. In this image, you can clearly see that the title has been trimmed. This is basically due to the length of the title which a user has a given.

You must have to follow the length of a title while you are writing a post or while you are creating a webpage for your website.

Length of a paragraph (should be less than 150 words)

The next thing that comes into my mind about the SEO technique is the length of a paragraph – whenever you write a paragraph, consider the length of that paragraph. The suitable length of a paragraph, keeping the optimization of SEO in mind is 150 words. You don’t have to write a paragraph more than 150 words. Because if you do so, your website readability will go down.

Let’s move ahead and we will see the third important technique that is important with respect to SEO.

Slug structure – Short and most contain the keyword

The third thing that concerns primarily with the SEO is the length of the Slug or the URL or the permalink.

Always try to keep the URL short and must include your primary key phrase into your URL. This is a very important rule of on-page optimization and you must have to follow that.

Moving ahead let’s see what we have next? Now we need to focus on the meta description of a blog post.

Whenever you write a post, you have to include the primary key phrase or so-called main keyword into the front part of your meta description.

Other than that you can include the main keyword synonyms into your description. This will help Google to understand your content intent and doing that they will provide a good ranking accordingly for that primary keyword.

As you know if you really want to rank on Google with On-page SEO, off-page is also important. After doing proper On-Page SEO, people choose to go for speedy backlinks creation, thinking that they will rank fast on Google. this is somehow correct also. But not in all the conditions.

For an event blogging website I recommend this. But for a long term blogging website or a business website, I will never recommend speedy backlinks shortcut for ranking.

If you create thousands of backlinks per day for a new website then your website might be flagged by Google. Google loves natural backlinks. It can be either dofollow or nofollow. Google penguin update is made for checking the backlinks status.

You might have seen buy backlinks ads on Fiverr. Most of the backlinks sellers there use shady techniques (Like PBN – Private Blog Networks) to speed up the backlinks creation process. This may lead to penalties also if not handled correctly.

Natural backlinks is the key to success

Getting natural backlinks loved by Google is a time taking the process for new bloggers. For an old and famous website like msn.com, apple.com the scenario will be different. I will describe it later in this article.

You know a website with less no of backlinks can go for higher ranking in SERPs due to its quality where as a website with tons of backlinks will not rank due to low quality backlinks.

So, the quality of backlinks matters a lot, not quality. make sure to go with apace when you are doing full-time long term blogging. Now the question comes “how to get quality backlinks?”

Google main goal is to provide searchers with a good search experience. They want that the searcher should get the right information according to their search. So, with the valuable and fresh content you have to focus on high quality backlinks.

Quality backlinks – how to get it fastly?

1 From High-Authority Sites

You should try to get backlinks from high authority sites. High authority sites are those sites which have high DA (Domain Authority) and PA (Page Authority). It can also be defined as the trust of Google on a website.

For example, Google considers .gov and .edu domain are high authoritative in nature. Getting just one or two backlinks from these domains can boost your ranking better than 100 backlinks from low-authority websites.

But don’t try to find a loophole in it. a .edu and a .gov website are authoritative in nature only it has no spam score, high DA, high, PA and good trust and citation flow. A newly bought .edu or .gov domain will not help you to boost your ranking.

You can use tools like Ahref and SEMrush to get specific information and website authority.

2. Backlinks from similar sites/ same niche

If you are running a website about “Computer repair” and making backlinks on a “dog care” website then this will not going you to help you. It can be harmful, in fact.

As I said, Google looks for naturally created backlinks. So, backlinks from another niche and topic will lead to suspicious activity. That’s why make sure to get backlinks from same niche and domain.

Now the question comes, how can you find similar sites?

You can take help from Alexa, it will help you get the backlinks information of other sites and will also tell you similar sites like you based on your content, domina and niche.

3. Go for the diversity

You should never stick to a bunch of site to create backlinks. You can reach up to as many as possible blog owners to get a dofollow backlinks. It can be done by any of the methods described above like broken link, Guest posting or comment.

If you use PBN (Private Network Blogs) to create backlinks for your site then the chances of penalization will be stronger. it all depends on how the PBN maker is managing his network. For a short term blogging or event blogging, it is totally acceptable.

4. Monitor your backlinks

Website optimization for SEO is important. So, you have to spend some time on backlinks monitoring and optimization. I am using Semrush for this. you can use Alexa or Ahref also.

Spam backlinks are something which is not created by you. It is intentionally created by your competitors to slow you down or with other purposes. So, monitor your backlinks graph on weekly basis and if you found any negative data then disavow it using Google disavow tool.

Conclusion – How many backlinks per day is safe to create?

As I said the quality of backlinks matters not the quantity. So, try to achieve natural backlinks. If you are buying backlinks or if involved in backlinks exchange process then you are giving a chance to Google to penalize you.

Only buy backlinks from trust seller and also look for the niche and domain they are offering for backlinks. Try to get backlinks from your niche and look of high authority sites. .gov and, edu backlinks are important to rank high in short time.

So, you can say confidently now that there is no limit on how many backlinks you should create per day? Only the things matter is naturality of backlinks.

  1. Googlebot crawl budget for your site – The amount of time that Googlebot gives to crawl your site is called “crawl budget.” The greater a page’s authority, the more crawl budget it receives. So, sites having high domain authority and page authority will receive more crawl budget rather than a new site.
  2. Googlebot is always crawling your website – “Googlebot shouldn’t access your site more than once every few seconds on average .” Google says this in their Googlebot article. In other words, your site is always being crawled provided your site is accurately accepting Google web spiders. It’s important to note that every page on your site is not crawled by Googlebot all the time. Have you heard about consistent content marketing, this is the right time to punch into it – newly written, detailed, properly structured, and updated contents always gains the crawler’s attention, and improves the likelihood of top ranked pages.
  3. Robots.txt is accessed first by Googlebot to get crawling rules decided by you – Pages, posts, media, WordPress directories which are disallowed to access will not be accessed by Googlebot. If you don’t have a robot.txt file, create one and write your crawling rules there.
  4. You should know Googlebot optimization comes to a step prior to the search engine optimization. It’s important that your site should accurately be crawled and indexed by Google. So, Let’s see what are those principles which you need to keep in mind.

1.Optimize your robots.txt file properly

Everytime when a Googlebot or other search engine bot comes to crawl your site. It goes to robots.txt file first. A robots.txt file tell them where to go and where not? So, robots.txt is essential for SEO. I have already discussed about crawl budget above. It’s something which is dependent on page rank of a site.

So, you should always optimize your robots.txt, this will give enough crawl budget to the right section of your website. I know you don’t want to spend this limited resource to scan bullshit pieces of stuff on your website.

2. Create fresh and original contents

It is crucial for Googlebot optimization that your low ranked pages should be crawled frequently. But, to crawl tat page you need to add some freshness into that content. You can update that content time to time. But keep in mind don’t change it drastically, it might ruin your pagerank also.

For example – Initially the content was “Googlebot optimization and it’s benefits for SEO”. Now you changed it to ” optimizing Googlebot for better SEO practices”. These type of changes are good. You can do it.

In the similar fashion originality of content also matters for Google. Google does not give more importance to those contents which are copyrighted or staled. I would recommend you to go with unique and detailed content always.

3. Internal linking can’t be ignored

Whenever I have talked about On-page SEO, I have always urged people to interlink the relevant articles. for example, you can see this article, I have interlinked my SEO, backlinks and previous Googlebot articles along with some other articles.

The more tight-knit and integrated your internal linking structure will be, the better it will be crawled by Google. You can use Yoast SEO, which suggests the articles which can be interlinked by content analysis.

If you want to analyze your interlinking structure then you should visit
Google Search Console Links → Internal Links. If you found the pages at the top of the list are strong content pages that you want to be returned in the SERPs, then you’re doing well.

4. Create a Sitemap for your website

I have focused more about the creation and importance of sitemap for a website in a separate article. Follow these article –

5. Don’t get too fancy

Googlebot doesn’t crawl JavaScript, DHTML Frames, Flash, and Ajax content. So, adding these type of content on your website is not advisable. If you use WordPress then you can minimize Javascript and CSS file using WP rocket plugin.

The above mentioned things will increase your page load time also, So, reduce them as much as possible.

I have seen some bloggers use infinite scrolling pages on their site. So, for better Googlebot optimization, you need to ensure that your infinite scrolling pages comply with the stipulations provided by Google and also explained in Neil Patel article.

Analyzing Googlebot performance is a crucial step in Googlebot optimization and it is quite simple to understand with the help of Google Webmaster tool.

The data provided by Google webmaster is limited but it will help you to find any serious error or major crawl issues on your blog.

Let’s see what you have to keep in mind when you look at the Googlebot performance in webmaster. Login to Google Search Console and Navigate to Coverage.

Resolve the crawl errors

Checking and fixing the crawl error is the first step if Googlebot optimization. In coverage, you can check, is there crawl error you have or not? if not, It’s awesome. But if you have some crawl error then you need to fix them immediately.

Keep an eye on your crawl stats

Google tells you about pages crawled per day, kilobytes downloaded per day and Time spent downloading a page (in milliseconds). A proactive content marketing campaign that regularly pushes fresh content will provide positive upward momentum for these stats

Take help from “fetch as Google” feature

The “Fetch as Google” feature allows you to look at your site or individual web pages the way that Google would. You can fetch as Google tab to fetch any page having crawl errors and then once completed, you can request indexing to the Google. It is applicable in other errors also like soft 404, clickable elements too close together, content out of page and more.

Check status of blocked URL’s

If you want to check any URL is blocked by Googlebot or not then you can use the robots.txt tester. You can check it with different Googlebots.

If a legitimate link is blocked then you should make changes accordingly in your robots.txt file to solve that error.

Keep your sitemap updated

You should check your sitemap status time to time to analyze how many links are discovered? how many images are discovered? and how many of them have been indexed yet?

Get an SSL certificate for your website. Https is very much important. Google give more preferences to those URL which has Https:// over Http:// here ‘s’ stand for security.

Having https:// make a good impression to your user it feels more secure to your user.

If you on not have SSL certificate then you can contact your hosting provider to get on for you. You can also get this SSL certificate for free. But I never recommend you to go with FREE SSL Certificates. Most of the hosting providers like BlueHost, Interserver, Namecheap they provide SSL with Hosting. There are so many methods available by which you can get a free SSL certificate for your website without paying a buck.

Please ensure these checklists while you are writing your content. Do you know SEO totally depends on the way you write your contents? The Plugins Like Yoast SEO and All in One SEO are just helping it to make it better and to perform the necessary check before you make your content online.

1. The SEO title is wider than the viewable limit – You have to always ensure that you write your SEO title in 45-55 characters only. This is a standard length which you need to follow. Look Out the picture below.

2. The text contains less than 300 words. Add a bit more copy – This is also a general mistake people do. I always recommend writing poss in more than 500 Words. But it will be more beneficial to you and your site if You write more than 900 words in your post.

You always tend to write bigger contents.

If you can write more and valuable contents than your competitors then it will help you to higher ranking SERP’s.

3. The slug for this page contains a stop word, consider removing it – If you can avoid stopping words (a, an, into, the, on, but..etc) then it will be better for you. Sometimes slugs play an important role in Permalink at that time you can ensure other checks to work better.

4.  The images on this page do not contain alt attributes – While adding an image to your blog, it might be anywhere like in a gallery, blog post, on the page, You always have to enter alt text.

It is also called alternate text.

5. No focus keyword was set for this page. If you do not set a focus keyword, no score can be calculated – Always decide Focus Keyword according to your contents you have written. The better way is to decide your focus keyword before writing anything and then write according to your Focus Keyword.

6. No meta description has been specified. Search engines will display copy from the page instead – Write meta description for your post. if you do not write meta description Properly then Google will take some part of your first paragraph to show in SERPs.

7. 1 or more subheading is followed by more than the recommended maximum of 300 words. Try to insert another subheading – This step is very helpful to increase the readability of the post. Readability also matters when it tends to rank two similar posts.

8. Most of the paragraphs are too long, which is not great – Don’t write long paragraphs in your Content. It makes readability worst. None of your paragraphs should be more than 150 words. Try to make small paragraphs.

9. Most of the sentences contain more than 20 words, which is greater to the recommended maximum of 25% – Always try to write a shorter sentence. You can write longer sentences but keep in mind it should always be less than 25%. This will also improve the readability of the content.

10. The meta description doesn’t have a nice length – You should always write your meta description somewhere in between 250-340 words. if you write more google will trim this while showing in search results.
